Reviews
I bought over the years about 50 photo books and this one stands above the crowd. Good advice, good examples (Michael's own photos), mostly the American west (Yosemite National Park, Grand canyon, Mono Lake). The connection to the Grand Old Masters (Adams, Weston, Porter) is a bit tenacious, in my opinion Michael's photos are glorious enough to support the subjects discussed on their own. But - if you think you have not seen "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico" by Adams before, this book will gladly remind you that yes, indeed, you have seen it before. Indeed there is not a single famous Adams photo not included in this book (Winter Sunrise, Sierra Nevada, etc). But, apart from my Grand Old Masters objection, this is a very good book, very good advice, not too technical (Michael does not get dizzy about Megapixels), but the important issues are explained in an easy, understandable flow. Post-processing (Photoshop, etc) is explained in principle terms but this is not a Photoshop book, if you are a total novice to post-processing it will be hard to follow. Buy a Photoshop book. But this book delivers 100% what it promises: Digital Landscape Photography tips, techniques, advice. I'd recommend this book without reservations if you are into Landscapes.
